After the fierce battle at Erragadda Paadu (Vengalapuram), this ancient temple was established in the year 1285 by the descendants of the Yadava king Katama Raju, who once ruled the Kanigiri fort. The goddess Sri Paleti Gangaa Bahvani is venerated as a deity of immense power and benevolence.
